Summer Silhouettes

silhouette in a tree

Watching a Beatles tribute concert at the park at sunset. I hope this memory lasts a lifetime for this young lady in the tree.

Pause

Purple thistles
I almost missed it. I love the pretty purple thistles that grow along side the highway in our little town. The temps have reached up to 90s and 100s and of course, many of the flowers, even the desert ones are drying up and ended their life cycles for the year. I've been meaning to stop and capture them, as I do usually every year since we've moved here and just got too caught up and too much of a hurry. So, one day on the way down the hill, I paused, pulled over the car, got out the camera and took what only took a minute to capture and was on my merry way. I can appreciate them as I drive by but it's a sweet reminder to look back and see them on my blog and hopefully serve as a reminder to pause.....

In the garden

Haven't posted in awhile so thought I'd share some of what's blooming in the garden right now....
hydrangeas

these lovely pink hydrangeas

Lavender

Jasmine in the garden

and some sweet smelling jasmine climbing a trellis in my little backyard garden.

Ahhh, smells so sweet in the evenings. And, all the little hummingbirds, bees and finches have been visiting as well. I saw a lovely orange dragonfly that comes by our pool daily, I shall have to try to get his picture someday. Every morning you can hear the red-tailed hawks up in the pines at the end of the yard. As well, as the cackling of black crows, mockingbirds, sparrows, and phoebes. I love where we live, you see so and hear so much wildlife on a daily basis.

SOOC Sunday

Sweet broom in the garden
Sweet broom in the front garden. You see huge bushes of these alongside the highway to our little town right now. Reminds you that summer is coming!

Sharing with Melody over at Slurping Life for SOOC (Straight out of the camera) Saturdays.

Wordless Wednesday

The Lone Wildflower

Taken while at Dos Picos Park with our girl scout troop recently. We went for a little hike and was surprised to still find many beautiful little wild flowers in bloom. It was a lovely day. More can be found here.

Discover the Undiscovered

deserted garden shop

This week Tracey asks what have we discovered with our lens. Sometimes it's fun to discover the undiscovered. Many undiscovered treasures to the eyes can be found in odd, seemingly deserted places. We happened upon this garden shop/nursery which happened to be across the street from a Pioneer School our girl scout troop visited that day. I was drawn in by the "abandoned, shipwrecked" boat out front, and thought what an interesting place to visit. So before heading off to the beach closeby, we all trekked across the street to explore and perhaps pick up a few tomato plant seedlings while there. We came to find an unlocked, open, deserted stone garden shop nestled amongst greenhouses, old shacks, fountains, artwork and a falling apart rock wall made of rocks, shells, remnants of lost treasures. Such a delight to the eyes. Perhaps off to lunch, or out back gardening in the greenhouses, no one was to be found, except perhaps some garden fairies or gnomes who were left behind to guard the place......
sit right back and we'll tell a tale...

Go visit Tracey Clark's blog for more discoveries this week.
